The three guests will respectively accompany the feature films Non riattaccare, Gloria! and Another End in competition.
New previews of the seventh edition of the Saturnia Film Festival, a traveling event among the villages of Maremma scheduled from July 31 to August 4, 2024.
Organized by the cultural association Aradia Productions under the presidency of Antonella Santarelli and the artistic direction of director Alessandro Grande, this year the Saturnia Film Festival also features two competitions dedicated to feature films and short films, with a strong focus on emerging cinema.
For the feature film competition, the following are expected: Barbara Ronchi with her latest work, Non riattaccare by Manfredi Lucibello, presented at the last Torino Film Festival, an intense road movie set during the pandemic that sees Barbara Ronchi as the absolute protagonist in one of her most intense performances; Piero Messina will present his second work, in competition at Berlin 2024, Another End, a story about love and the sense of detachment set in the near future, accompanied by the music author Bruno Falanga; also from Berlin comes the last of the films in competition, Gloria! with the protagonist Carlotta Gamba.
The short film selection this year will also be divided into three categories. For Fiction Italy: L’acquario by Gianluca Zonta, featuring Giovanni Anzaldo in a love story that tackles the risks and possible drifts of using artificial intelligence; Dive by Aldo Iuliano, presented at the last Venice Festival in the Horizons section, a story about adolescence that digs into the most innocent feelings, photographed by Daniele Ciprì; Easy In, Easy Out by Giovanni Boscolo with Mirko Frezza and Antonio Bannò playing two hitmen on the streets of Ostia.
Three films come from abroad: Ivalu by Anders Walter and Pipaluk K. Jørgensen, a story of a disappearance in the vast nature of Greenland nominated for the 2023 Oscars; Things unheard of by Ramazan Kılıç, awarded at the Clermont-Ferrand International Film Festival, in which a Kurdish girl tries to bring a smile to her grandmother’s face after her television, her only window to the world, was destroyed; Lip Virgin by Shimrit Eldis, where the director tells the story of a 13-year-old girl searching for her first perfect kiss.
Space is also given to animation with Everywhere by Franc Planas, a reflection on life and the importance of moments to cherish; Spring Waltz, a love story between a man and a woman divided by a wall who don’t want to stop in front of barriers, directed by Stefano Lorenzi and Clelia Catalano; The Black (re)Cat, a stop motion animation adaptation of one of Edgar Allan Poe’s most famous tales, The Black Cat, directed by Paolo Gaudio.
The short films in competition will be evaluated by a jury chaired by Paolo Orlando (distribution director of Medusa Film), Manuela Rima (Rai Cinema), Mario Mazzetti (journalist and critic), Mirella Cheeseman (Wildside), Alessandro Amato (Disparte).
In addition to the two competitions, there will be previews and special screenings, as well as meetings and conversations with guests and the brand new section Saturnia Pitch, a project designed for industry professionals as a moment of updating and professional growth.
